273 asthmatics participated in the survey and responded anonymously to a questionnaire developed by Dr. Michèle Pujos, sexologist, and Marc Sapene, pulmonologist. The results confirm the impact of asthma on the sex lives of patients:
- 38% of respondents complained of breathing difficulties during sexual intercourse, the most affected patients so-called "persistent severe.
- 46% of patients are severely hampered by their asthma during sex, 25% are forced to stop during the act.
- 22% agree that their asthma is a hindrance to sexual life and 31% reported that their asthma has an impact on the quality of life of their partner even outside of their sexuality.
- 26% "s'économisent" during intercourse, limit the duration (21%) or frequency (48%).
- A final figure revealing: among respondents, the average frequency of sex is 1.75 per week, against 2.6 times on average in France.
