At the request of the CANAM (Caisse nationale d'assurance maladie des professions independent), INSERM has conducted a review of knowledge on biological rhythms in order to understand the interactions between school schedules and own internal clocks children and adolescents. Indeed, the question of the possible adjustment of school time, more and more often discussed, may interfere with the natural rhythms of children and to have negative consequences on both their health on their learning.
Children: to facilitate and respect nap nights from 9 am
Biological rhythms are regulated primarily by the pace standby / sleep. Between the fetal period and adolescence, it operates continuously, but there is also considerable variability at all ages in different individuals. It speaks to small or large sleepers, and children instead of the morning or evening. After a critical analysis of recently published scientific literature, the experts come to advocate a nap in the offspring without the limitation to the small section of tongue.
They also stressed that children must have their 'content to sleep', or nights, from 9 am to 10 years, as well as regular sleeping hours and to lift!
Teenagers to delay the entry class
In adolescent sleep needs are greater than the pre-adolescent, probably because of biological changes of puberty. Depending on the characteristics of their sleep, it seems preferable to delay entry into the class: 'course not before 9am.
Use the slots to the best intellectual
The intellectual activity of children (performance, vigilance) fluctuates during the day. Overall, the slots are the best late-morning and mid-afternoon, but there are differences by age of children and thus classes. Respect for those slots is even more important in the PTA, Education Priority Zones, where problems at school are frequent by definition. Indeed, if the educational level is low, performance is more sensitive to the rhythms of alertness. It is therefore recommended to use the slots most beneficial for new learning requires a lot of attention, and, conversely, to occupy less favorable to the maintenance activities of knowledge or more fun.
